NYC Part I - Central Park

We arrived in NYC on Friday the 11th of October in the evening and were pretty tired after the long bus trip from Utica. We girls figured out our way to the apartment we stayed in in Brooklyn pretty smoothly. To call it an apartment is the biggest overstatement ever though, since it was a room where they had crammed one double bed and two bunk beds, a lot of the resident's personal stuff and a toilet. Well we payed about $100 each for the whole weekend so it didn't actually matter, and also we didn't stay in the apartment more than just for sleeping. That night some of our big group went partying, and then the rest of us had the privilege to go on a private tour around the city in Luis car. We saw so many awesome places in just a few hours (and I did not have a camera with me!!) so it was pretty amazing. We drove on almost all the bridges going from Manhattan to Brooklyn and Queens, saw parts of all these three boroughs and had wonderful city-by-night views. We would definitely not have seen this much if it hadn't been for Luis and his willingness to show (drive) us around. So thank you millions Luis! :)

(And by the way, the credit for most of the photos where I am in goes to Anne, Anna and Gabriella).

We arrived to Port Authority on Friday evening.

On Saturday morning we went to Central Park with the Finns to meet up the guys. The two other girls were back at our apartment after me and Anna found them. They had been wandering around the metro system and Brooklyn for about four hours, they got lost on their way home, some subways didn't run and they didn't know exactly where we lived. Luckily we found them before we got to the subway station, because we were worried sick and who knows if they wouldn't have found "home" by themselves! When we made it to 5th Avenue and 59th Street we spent a good half an hour at least before we happened to finally run into the guys. See the problem was, we girls were the only ones with a functioning phone, so the miscommunication started on the first day and it pretty much lasted until the end of our second day in NYC. Haha. We snapped a whole bunch of pictures, enjoyed the marvelous weather and took in the landscapes of the east side of Central Park.

Natsumi and Maclu seemed pretty happy to finally have found their way back :D

Anne and Damir. You can by the way see the famous boathouse in the background, which is featured in many movies and a popular movie wedding venue.

We Finns; Anne, me, Anna & Gabriella.

Evgenii and Marcin chilling when they finally got to sit down for a while.

These random beautiful houses between skyscrapers was a thing I noticed pretty often.

We stopped and took a lunch break after a couple of hours in the park. We decided to eat something from one of the halal trucks you can find in every other corner, and the one we happened to choose was a very good choice. I chose a (spicy) lamb gyro which was juuuuust amazing. I thought I would never eat the college food again...

We stopped by in the Apple Store on 5th Avenue and 59th Street. It was waaaaay too crowded to actually get anything done in there, but at least we could enjoy having wi-fi for a little while and see if Luis and the other girls would have been online so we could find them. Well, guess what. They weren't so we continued our trip to Starbucks for a coffee break.

We popped in to Niketown on 6 East 57th Street for a little while. If you love Nike and want to see their newest stuff, go there. It was a multistory shop with all kinds of sports attire in the colors of the season.

I fell a little bit in love with the mint green runners.

We got to the Meatpacking District and we started with eating a froyo at Pinkberry. Oh my, it was delicious. Our trip continued on the High Line and some amazing sunset views. I will post more pictures and continue the story in another post. Ciao!

To be continued…

In the meanwhile, check out these pictures from NYC.
